CAFOD Young Leaders

Hello, we are the Year 12 CAFOD Young Leaders and we are completing a programme which consists of 3 training days and work in our college. 

The name of the organisation stands for the Catholic Aid for Overseas Development.  It was founded in 1962 and started in the city of London. Through this time it massively increased in the supporters, who want to decrease the poverty in the world and establish the right conditions to live, while being aware of all the disastrous problems that people face including famines, flooding, tsunamis and others. It is international – this means that CAFOD is trying to help people in need across the whole globe. It already helped millions of people, especially in Africa and South America. The countries that received help from CAFOD include Bolivia, Cambodia, and Democratic Republic of Congo as well as others, where offices can be found. CAFOD is inspired by biblical teachings such as ‘The Good Samaritan’ and ‘The Golden Rule’ as well as others. They are also inspired by the whole work of Jesus Christ, who showed to people, by his actions, what love really means. Through 2010, until 2011 - it raised £69 million and employed 366 staff.

For our first training day in September the campaign we focused on was called ‘share the journey’ which focused on refugees where we completed numerous activities and learned some startling information.  Activities included: share the journey, a refugee video, ice breaker activities and numerous others. Our task after the first day of training was to raise awareness within our college, which is what this article is, we have also put up posters in our 6^th Form Centre, changed our email signatures, and there was refugee theme in the end of term Advent liturgies which included the following video.  All we ask of you is that you take time and view the video by selecting the image below.
