GUIDANCE FOR PARENTS
Supporting your child through Year 10 and Year 11 exams can feel challenging, but your encouragement and understanding play a crucial role in their success and wellbeing.
Here are some tips to help you guide your child through their study, revision, and exam period with care and confidence:

1. Create a Balanced Study Routine
Help your child develop a realistic and balanced revision timetable that includes regular breaks, exercise, and downtime. Encourage them to focus on manageable chunks of work rather than trying to do everything at once.
2. Foster a Positive Study Environment
Ensure they have a quiet, well-lit, and comfortable space to study, free from distractions. A tidy, organized workspace can help improve concentration and reduce stress.

3. Encourage Healthy Habits
Good sleep, nutritious meals, and physical activity are essential for memory, focus, and overall wellbeing. Encourage your child to maintain these habits throughout their revision and exam period.

4. Support Emotional Wellbeing
It’s normal for students to feel anxious or overwhelmed at times. Listen to their concerns without judgment, and remind them that their worth is not defined by exam results. Encourage relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, mindfulness, or hobbies they enjoy.

5. Stay Informed and Involved
Keep up to date with exam dates, revision resources, and school communications. Attend any school meetings or workshops that offer guidance on how to support your child effectively.

6. Encourage Independence and Self-Advocacy
Help your child develop confidence by encouraging them to ask teachers for help when needed and to take ownership of their revision. Building resilience now will benefit them far beyond their exams.

7. Know When to Seek Extra Support
If your child is struggling emotionally or academically, don’t hesitate to reach out to the school’s pastoral team or counselling services. Early support can make a significant difference.

Remember: Your support, patience, and understanding create a foundation of confidence and calm for your child during this important time. Together, we can help them achieve their best while looking after their wellbeing.
