Answering Homework

HOMEWORK

At Saints Peter & Paul Catholic High School, we recognise that all students should experience success and aspire to be the best version of themselves.

High-quality homework nurtures both academic achievement and personal growth.

Why Homework Matters

HIGH EXPECTATIONS LEAD TO HIGHER OUTCOMES

Homework has a positive impact on secondary school attainment, and equates to over five extra months of progress for students.

At Saints Peter and Paul, we set a clear expectation of 100% completion of homework for all students.

Our students are not alone in working towards this target, as we provide the support they need to achieve this standard.

ACHIEVING EXCELLENCE

Consolidating classroom learning, deepening understanding, promoting independence and resilience, and engaging parents in their child’s progress

SUPPORTS CURRICULUM EXPECTATIONS

Homework links our curriculum to independent study, research, and assessment of knowledge retention and understanding, enabling the development of new skills

DEMONSTRATE CATHOLIC VALUES

Frequently asked questions

KEY STAGE 4 SUBJECT SPECIFIC Homework guides

30 minutes of careful reading each week can significantly improve a student’s reading age, in some cases by up to two years in one academic year of reading.

Homework for English will be predominantly set on Sparx Reader, with two of the full texts that are studied (A Christmas Carol, Macbeth) being set for 30 minutes of reading each week. These will correlate with students’ study of the text.

By reading and re-reading key texts, students will be familiar with the key quotations that they will need for their Literature studies, as well as being much more confident with plot and character development.
