Harnessing a balance between theory and practical, our Computing curriculum delivers the most up-to-date content in exciting, challenging and inspiring ways.

Our curriculum offers a high-quality computing education, which equips students to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world.

Our Computing curriculum focuses on a progression of skills in:

digital literacy, computer science, information technology and online safety
computational thinking and creativity, enabling students to solve real-world problems, think logically, and adapt to technological changes.
ensuring all students become confident, responsible digital citizens, grounded in Catholic values of stewardship, respect, and service.

These strands are revisited repeatedly through a range of themes during the student's journey through school to ensure the learning is embedded and skills are successfully developed.

Key Stage 3: Computing

To ensure gradual and sustained skill development, students experience a cyclical curriculum built around four core strands:

Digital Literacy

Computer Science

Information Technology

and Online Safety

The curriculum balance includes:

Theoretical foundations: understanding binary systems, algorithms, and programming logic.
Practical engagement: using varied software, digital tools, and creative technologies.
Online safety education: fostering awareness of digital risks, privacy, and responsible behaviour.

Key Stage 4: iMedia & Computer Science

At KS4, pupils can opt for iMedia (a vocational, creative media qualification) and/or Computer Science, offering:

iMedia: hands-on learning in digital media e.g., graphics, animation, web design, fostering creativity, design thinking, and production skills
Computer Science: more formal study into programming, systems, computational concepts, and problem-solving, developing rigorous logical thought and digital competence

Instruction combines theory and practical work, reinforcing learning through application, project-based tasks, and real-world contexts.

CATHOLIC SOCIAL TEACHING

The Computing curriculum at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic High School supports students’ personal development by helping them become confident, responsible and reflective users of technology. Through topics such as online safety, digital citizenship, cyber security and the ethical use of technology, students learn to make informed decisions and understand their responsibilities in an increasingly digital world.

The curriculum is underpinned by Catholic Social Teaching, particularly the principles of human dignity, the common good, and responsibility, encouraging students to use technology respectfully, challenge online injustice, communicate positively with others, and recognise how digital innovation can be used to improve people’s lives and serve society. Through practical projects, problem-solving activities and enrichment opportunities, students develop resilience, creativity, leadership and a commitment to using their talents for the benefit of others.
