Literacy
At Saints Peter & Paul Catholic High School, our whole school literacy strategy is embedded throughout each subject curriculum.
Through the development of core skills in reading and communication, students are supported to build knowledge and vocabulary, leading to academic achievement across all subjects and enabling confident participation in modern Britain and the global community.

the quill
The Quill is our new and improved library and intervention area (2026), split across two rooms and located in the Hub.
With a wide variety of genres and titles, students are able to come in and select a new title to loan and read at home, or can read in an inviting and calming space. It can also be used as a space for some independent study to enrich learning and promote a sense of independence, pride and accomplishment in our students.
Miss Aspey, our Reading Co-Ordinator will be on hand to assist students in finding a new book, or where possible, can order new titles in upon request/demand.

At Saints Peter and Paul Catholic High School, we are proud to deliver a variety of targeted interventions, all designed to bridge any gaps in comprehension, spelling and fluency of reading, with the overall goal to support academic progress and achievement across the curriculum.

As a library member, you can borrow and return items at any of our four libraries: Widnes, Ditton, Halton Lea and Runcorn.
Members also have access to a wide range of services, resources and activities throughout the year.
