Saints Peter and Paul Catholic High School's fundraising has exceeded its goals, raising over £400 for a charity that feeds school children around the world.
Throughout November, students across the school have taken part in activities and have used their own initiative to raise money for Mary’s Meals.
Following a visit from a Mary’s Meals charity representative, formation group 08 Williams were so moved they decided to work together to create a social media campaign to get as many donations as possible. The students wrote an email reaching out to local businesses for support and wrote their own script to make a video for the school’s social media channels, helping to raise over £250 in just a few weeks.
One of our Year 8 students Luke was similarly inspired to make a donation, generously giving £100 of his own money to help children attend school in some of the poorest countries in the world. Luke said, “There are other children out there who need this money more than I do. I just want to help others have the meals they need to learn and grow and prevent them from going hungry.”

The school also arranged a special ‘World Porridge Day’ event in the school Chapel, providing students from all year groups with their own porridge snack in exchange for a contribution to the charity, and a community Advent Service helping to raise a further £75 towards the total.

The fundraising efforts form part of the school’s commitment to Catholic social teaching by serving the wellbeing of others in need.
Principal Danielle Scott said, “I am overwhelmed by the thoughtfulness and kind actions taken by our students, and so proud of how they have come together as a community and taken such positive action in response to the visit from Mary’s Meals. To have students also donate large sums from their own pocket money is simply astounding and truly humbling. I also cannot thank our students, families, staff and members of the local community enough for their generous donations that will really make a difference to people’s lives. Too often children and young people can receive a bad rap, so it is wonderful to be able to share how their positive actions can make a change in the world around them and shows just how much of an impact we can have when we work together to make society better.”
