Saints Peter and Paul Catholic High School students have been awarded silver grading in the UK Schools’ Music Festival.
The school’s eighteen student strong samba band, featuring musicians from all year groups, competed against ensembles and solo performances from other schools and students around the country via video submission, and were presented with their silver trophy earlier today.

The UK Schools’ Music Festival is a competition dedicated to promoting music education and inspiring young musicians throughout the UK, and Music Festival judges praised the “really strong and engaging performance that had been clearly well prepared, with clear communication and is an excellent example of good ensemble skill. The visual aspect of the performance was a great addition as well.”
The talented students will now be required to attend an in-person event for live grading at the next competition.
Mrs Saunders, Head of Music, said, “Our school samba band’s popularity within our school and local community is already well known, but I am immensely delighted and proud of our musicians for receiving such outstanding recognition on a national scale and we will definitely be celebrating this award with all our students, in the hope of inspiring others to use music as a positive outlet for learning new skills and developing confidence.”
Principal Mrs Scott said, “The students, tutors, and music faculty all work extremely hard throughout the year to create such strong arrangements and performances for our Samba band, and I would like to offer my congratulations to them all on this tremendous achievement and for being such inspirational role models and ambassadors for our school. Well done to them all.”
